Masonboro Kids Dentistry

The American Academy of Children's Dentistry recommends scheduling your child's first dental visit within 6 months of their first tooth appearing, or by their first birthday — whichever comes first. Early visits help establish healthy dental habits and allow us to monitor development.

The first visit is typically a gentle introduction to our office and team. We'll examine your child's teeth and gums, clean and polish their teeth, discuss oral hygiene habits, and answer any questions you have. The goal is to make your child feel comfortable and excited about dental care.

We recommend dental checkups every 6 months for most children. Regular visits allow us to catch potential issues early, monitor jaw and tooth development, and reinforce good oral hygiene habits. Some children may need more frequent visits depending on their individual needs.

If your child experiences a dental emergency — such as a knocked-out tooth, severe toothache, or dental injury — New Patients: (910) 971-0705 and Existing Patients New Patients: (910) 981-1113. We prioritize emergency cases and will do our best to see your child as quickly as possible.

Yes! We accept most major dental insurance plans. We also offer flexible payment options for uninsured patients. Please call our office and we'll be happy to verify your benefits.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush sized for your child's mouth. For children under 3, use a rice-grain-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. For ages 3–6, a pea-sized amount is appropriate. Supervise brushing until your child has the dexterity to brush thoroughly on their own — typically around age 7–8.
